Kooks And Legends National Student Animation Film Competition

Call for Entries

Vision: To accept short animated student films from October 16, 2016 until August 1st, 2017, and review them with a small panel of prestigious judges. The three winners will be announced at our Kooks & Legends 3rd annual screening to be held in October 2017 in [location].

Objective: To engage and inspire animation students nationally and showcase their talent to the animation industry.

Rules and Regulations:
-Films must be submitted between October 16, 2016 and August 1, 2017.

-All films must reach us by end of day on August 1, 2017.

-Applicants must be residents of Canada and at least 19 years of age.

-The competition is open to students who are attending or have recently graduated from any animation educational institution in Canada excluding Quebec.

-Applicants must either be enrolled in an animation program or have completed their educational program between May 1, 2016 and October 31, 2016.|

-Only one (1) entry per person is allowed.

-Each film submissions must be in English and under 4 minutes in length.

-Films must be submitted in a formats listed below.**

-Films with incomplete materials by the deadline will not be eligible for review.

-Atomic Cartoons Inc. will not be responsible for any issues arising from uploading films to a file sharing program, submissions delayed by spam filters, server rejections or outdated email addresses.

-All submissions will be viewed in their entirety by at least four judges. Submissions will be judged and scored based on criteria including: quality of screenplay (story, dialogue, character arcs etc.), animation quality, originality, technical and proficiency. All decisions of the judges will be final.

-Judging will be conducted on [date TBD].**

-The three top selected entrants will be contacted by telephone and advised of the selection results approximately 3-4 weeks before the screening.   Only the top three films will be screened at the screening.

-The selected entrants must be able to attend the film screening to be held in Vancouver, BC on [October (TBD) 2017] in order for their film to be judged.

-All expenses incurred by the selected entrants in attending the film screening will be the responsibility of the selected entrants.

-All selected films may be excerpted for publicity purposes.

-Entrants must keep their status of winning or being selected confidential until the films have been judged.

-The winners will be announced at the Kooks and Legends 3, VIFF event on [date TBD]

-Selected entrant will retain the rights to their submissions.

-Selected entrants will grant Atomic Cartoons Inc. a license to screen submissions via the Atomic Cartoons website and through social media for a period of one year after the initial screening.

-The three selected films will remain online in Atomic Cartoons’ winner archives after its initial ‘screening’ unless Atomic Cartoons Inc. receives a request to delete the film.

-Selected entrants may be required to sign additional documentation relating to the awarding of a prize such as a standard declaration and release form confirming compliance with the rules, acceptance of the prizes as offered and releasing Atomic Cartoons Inc. from any liability associated with the contest. Selected entrants consent to the use of his/her name, address and/or photograph in any related publicity carried out by Atomic Cartons Inc. without compensation other than the prize offered.

-All submissions must meet certain criteria ie) no swearing, nudity or racial content, etc.

-By submitting your film to us, you’re indicating that you own and/or have acquired the rights in your film and have cleared music clearances, copyright, trademarks and logos of other parties and obtained their authorization.

-Atomic Cartoons reserves the right to cancel this event at any time. If one of the selected entrants is unable or unwilling to comply with the contest rules their submission will be declared ineligible and another film will be selected from the remaining eligible entries received.

-No purchase necessary. This promotion is subject to all applicable Federal, Provincial and Municipal laws and regulations.

Prizes
Top 3 Winners films will be screened at the 2017 Kooks and Legends screening.   The following cash prizes will be awarded to the owners of the top three films.
